Biographical or historical data
Robert Chester Foute was born 14 April 1841 in Greenville, Tennessee to Mary Amanda Broyles and George Washington Foute. Before the Civil War Foute served in the U.S. Navy and enlisted in the Confederate Navy 11 June 1861. By the end of the war Foute attained rank of 1st Lieutenant. Foute married Mary Stewart Dekantzow 19 September 1866. In 1874 he was ordained a priest in the Protestant Episcopal Church and 1883 elected rector of Grace Church, San Francisco, California. He died 28 July 1903 in San Francisco, California.
