Summary
Contains receipts for slaves delivered to the Keeper of the Penitentiary. The receipt provides the name of the recipient, the name of the slave, and place received. The receipts were written and signed by either Martin Mims between 1804 & 1806 or Abraham Douglas between 1807 & 1808 as Keepers of the Penitentiary. There are also a few receipts from county jailors. These jailors were compensated for their mileage in transporting slaves to the Penitentiary. Some of the receipts indicate that the slave was reprieved and intended for transportation out of the state or sentenced to death
