Biographical or historical data
Eustace Conway Moncure was born 6 February 1836 in Caroline County, Virginia, to William Augustus Moncure (1803-1862) and Lucy Ann Gatewood Moncure (1807-1895). At the beginning of the Civil War, he enlisted as a private in Company B, 9th Virginia Cavalry and was eventually promoted to 2nd lieutenant. After the war, Moncure returned to Caroline County. He became judge of the Caroline County Court and eventually was appointed to the Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals. He represented Caroline County in the House of Delegates in 1904. Moncure married Fanny M. Irby (1836-1923) 23 July 1859, and they had seven children. Moncure died 7 July 1921 in Caroline County, and was buried in Lakewood Cemetery.
