The Virginia State Legion commanded by Col. Charles Dabney was organized on 18 Jan. 1782 through the consolidation of the 1st Virginia State Regiment, Nelson's Corps of Cavalry, Capt. Roger's Company of Dismounted Dragoons, & Capt. Roane's Company of Artillery. The Legion disbanded on 24 April 1783.
