Maria B. Owen was born in 1807 or 1808 in Halifax County, Virginia. By 1845, she lived on a farm and was the owner of several slaves, some of whom she hired out. Owen died 29 November 1879 in Halifax County. Richard Logan was born in 1791 or 1792 in Virginia. In 1850, he was a lawyer residing in Halifax County with his wife, Mary M., and their children.
