Biographical or historical data
Robert Healy Pitt was born 30 December 1924 in Richmond, Virginia, to Alfred Taylor Pitt (1894-1935) and Adele Ott Pitt (1894-1982). He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1942. Pitt enlisted in the army during World War II and served in the Army Air Corps as a gunner. He was twice wounded during the war and received the Purple Heart with Oak Cluster. After the war, Pitt attended the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1949. He was the university's assistant dean of admissions from 1949 to 1953 and dean of admissions from 1954 to 1961. Leaving the University of Pennsylvania, Pitt was co-founder of Atlantic Development Company. He served as president and/or chairman of the board of Club Internationale Management Group, Diner's Club International, Domino International, and Tag Systems USA. Pitt died in Alexandria, Virginia, 15 December 2007.
