Biographical or historical data
Roger L. Gregory was born 17 July 1953 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Petersburg, Virginia. Gregory received his B.A. from Virginia State University in 1975 and and his law degree from the University of Michigan in 1978. Gregory founded a law firm with L. Douglas Wilder in 1982. Gregory was appointed by President Bill Clinton to the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals in December 2000 as a recess appointment valid only for a period of time. President George W. Bush renominated Gregory in May 2001 and he was overwhelmingly approved by the United States Senate.
