- Biographical or historical data
- Rufus Robbins was born 20 May 1828 in South Abington, Plymouth County, Massachusetts, to Rufus Robbins (1804-1877) and Alice Soule Robbins (1809-1885). A shoemaker before the Civil War, he enlisted in Company K, 7th Massachusetts Regiment as a private on 15 June 1861. Robbins served with his regiment until 16 November 1862, when he was sent to a hospital in Washington D.C. due to illness. He later was transferred to a hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, arriving there 19 December. Robbins died in Philadelphia 7 January 1863. He was buried in High Street Cemetery in South Abington (now Whitman, Massachusetts).
