SHE AND GOD, ca. 1972, by Florence deLaunay Buford of Brunswick County, Virginia, is a biographical sketch of Pattie Hicks Buford (1836-1901), of Brunswick County, who founded The Church Home for Aged, Infirmed, and Disabled Colored People in Brunswick County, Virginia, to provide medical care for African Americans in Brunswick County. The biography includes a transcript of her personal memorandum book, dated November 30, 1880 to June 11, 1882 and a copy of a brochure cover for the home. Biography also includes two articles from the BRUNSWICK GAZETTE and one from the RICHMOND TIMES eulogizing Pattie Buford; a genealogical chart of the Hicks family of Surry and Brunswick Counties; transcripts of the will, 20 October 1852, of Edward Broadnax Hicks, including codicils written 21 December 1852, 5 February 1855, 16 February 1858, and 25 October 1858. Also includes corrections and additions to SHE AND GOD made by Barbara H. Browder of Richmond, Virginia, in June 1983

Florence deLaunay Buford was born 5 November 1893 in Brunswick County, Virginia, to Robert Pegram Buford (1870-1900) and Susie Palmer Buford (1872-1961). Florence Buford died in April 1974 and was buried 9 April 1974 in Oakwood Cemtery in Lawrenceville, Brunswick County.
