Papers, 1892-1926, of Clara Bell Palmer Straker (b. 1872) of Staunton, Virginia, and London, England, consisting of a scrapbook, 1892-1896, containing clippings and articles about Clara Palmer's concerts and recitals, as well as her performance as Virginia's representative of music to the Chicago World's Fair in 1893, and a letter concerning her examination before the advisory committee on music for Virginia, and a letter of endorsement from the Peabody Institute in Baltimore, Maryland; loose papers containing notices of her performances, programs for recitals and concerts in Staunton, in Virginia, in New York, New York, in London, and elsewhere, a clipping on her marriage, 28 February 1906, to Frank Arthur Straker, and an obituary for Robert Vernon Palmer (d. 1917); and a blank diary with a few pages containing dates. Papers also include Clara Palmer Straker's applications for memberships in the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Daughters of the American Revolution, including the wills of Henry Austin (1743) and Samuel Austin (1763) of Maryland, and Henry Austin (1821) of Albemarle County, Virginia, as well as an Austin family history, and information on the Palmer family of King William and Rockingham Counties, Virginia; sheet music for two songs by Clara Palmer titled "Thou and I" and "A Bowl of Roses" (two copies); and a marriage certificate, dated 28 February 1906 and notarized 1 March 1906, for Clara Palmer's marriage to Frank Arthur Straker

Clara Bell Palmer was born in February 1872 in Augusta County, Virginia, to Henry Clay Palmer and Sarah S. Palmer. Clara Palmer became a renowned pianist, playing both in the United States and abroad. She married Frank Arthur Straker 28 February 1906, and they had at least three children.
