Biographical or historical data
Reverend John F. Deans was a chaplain of the 61st Virginia Infantry from 1 November 1862. He was hospitalized several times for illness during the war including twice in February 1862 for icterus and in March 1862 for typhoid fever. In June 1863 he was in Weldon, North Carolina where he likely served with Ransom's Brigade. In May 1865, Dean was paroled while in the hospital at Greensboro, North Carolina.
