Summary
The collection traces the lineage of William Starling (Sept. 4, 1756-Dec. 25, 1826) and his eleven children. It is a narrative view of life experiences and reminiscences of the Starling siblings. The collection chronicles the siblings' fortunes and tragedies and plantation life in the mid 1700's to mid 1800's. The family was wealthy, with an ample number of slaves and land. Thomas Starling, William's third child had a very intriguing life. He lived a cavalier life of splendor until the death of his wife, followed by death of his four children due to various ailments. The death of the children coupled by numerous debts forced him to sell his property to settle debts. He finally sold his slaves to his brother and resided with his daughter Sarah until his death
