Biographical or historical data
Thomas Wilkes Inglet (or Inglett) was born 27 February 1839 in Richmond County, Georgia. When the Civil War began, he enlisted in Company C, 28th Georgia Infantry, 10 September 1861. Inglet served with his regiment in Virginia, in South Carolina at Fort Wagner, in Florida, and then in Virginia again. He fought in the battle of the Crater during the siege of Petersburg. Wounded in fighting along the Darbytown Road near Richmond, Inglet spent time first in Jackson Hospital in Richmond, then at Blackie Hospital in Augusta, Georgia. Before and after the Civil War, Inglet worked as a wheelwright and a blacksmith and may have farmed. He and his wife Martha A. Palmer (1843-1916) Inglet had at least seven children, three of whom died during the Civil War. T. W. G. Inglet died 13 April 1910 in Richmond County and was buried in Reids Chapel Cemetery which is now Cemetery #4 at Fort Gordon, Georgia.
