The first speech was given during the presentation of a portrait of Robert Mercer Taliaferro Hunter. Biographical or historical data
Theodore Stanford Garnett Jr. was born 28 October 1844 in Richmond, Virginia, to Florentina Isidora Moreno (1820-1907) and Theodore Stanford Garnett (1812-1885). During the Civil War Garnett served in the Hanover Artillery, and afterwards joined Company F of the Ninth Virginia Cavalry. He became a courier for J. E. B. Stuart in June 1963 and in January 1864 he was promoted to aide-de-camp. By the end of the war he had attained the rank of captain. He earned a Law degree from the University of Virginia in 1867. Garnett died 27 April 1915.
