Biographical or historical data
William Henry Tappey Squires was born 14 April 1875 in Petersburg, Virginia, to Charles Winder Squires and Emily Elizabeth Tappey Squires. Squires received his BA from Hampden-Sydney College in 1895 and his MA from King College in Bristol, Tennessee in 1896. He received his Bachelor of Divinity degree from the Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia, in 1901. Licensed a Presbyterian minister 6 July 1901 and ordained 20 October 1901, Squires was pastor of Central Church in Bristol, Virginia, from 1901 to 1909. He was pastor of Knox Presbyterian Church, Glenwood Park Church and Ingleside Church, all in Norfolk, Virginia, successively from 1909 to 1948. Squires married Anna Sarah Hull (1879-1962) 26 April 1905, and they had four children. Squires died in Norfolk 20 April 1948 and was buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
