John Stafford Efford was born 1 March 1910 in Farnham, Richmond County, Virginia and attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He received undergraduate (1931) and graduate (1932) degrees in architectural engineering from V.P.I. After brief jobs in Fredericksburg and Warrenton, Culpeper County, Virginia, Efford began working at Carneal, Johnston, and Wright in Richmond, Virginia in 1935. In 1945, Efford became a self-employed architect. While employed at Carneal, Johnston, and Wright, and while self-employed, Efford worked on several public buildings and churches in Richmond and throughout the state of Virginia. He retired in 1986. Efford died 27 July 2006 in Richmond, Virginia.
