Diary 1849-1851, of Claiborne G. Fulks (1816-1870) of Nelson County, Virginia, containing daily notations concerning Fulks' travel and work as a carpenter working in Nelson, Amherst, and Bedford Counties, and Lynchburg, Virginia. Also includes Fulks' weather observations and comments on religion. There are also some accounts for building materials, a promissory note, and record of a sale of slaves at the end of the volume

Biographical or historical data
Claiborne G. Fulks was born 21 May 1816 in Amherst County, Virginia. He became a prosperous carpenter in Nelson County, Virginia, working in Nelson, Amherst, and Bedford Counties, and Lynchburg, Virginia. He and his wife Susan (b. ca. 1820) had at least six children. Fulks died between 28 August 1869, when he wrote his will, and 25 July 1870, at which time his will was recorded in the Nelson County Will Book.
