Biographical or historical data
The Reverend Nicholas Hamner Cobbs was born 5 February 1796 in Bedford County, Virginia and ordained an Episcopal priest in 1825. He served as rector of Russell Parish, Bedford County until 1839 when he became rector of St. Paul's Church in Petersburg, Virginia. In 1843, he became rector of St. Paul's Church in Cincinnati, Ohio and was elected Bishop of Alabama in 1844. He died in Montgomery, Alabama on 11 January 1861.
