Letter, 8 May 1863, from Jacob Burner Golladay (1838-1874) of Company B, 33rd Virginia Infantry near Frederickburg, Virginia, to his brother David Golladay (1826-1895), Shenandoah County, Virginia, describing the action seen by his company during the Battle of Chancellorsville. He states that he was slightly wounded in the leg, that General A. P. Hill (1825-1865) was wounded and that General Stonewall Jackson (1824-1863) lost his right arm. Golladay provides a list of losses from his company. There are two copies of this letter

Biographical or historical data
Jacob Burner Golladay was born in March 1838 in Shenandoah County, Virginia, to Abraham Golladay (1802-1839) and Mary Burner Golladay (1805-1855). When the Civil War began, Golladay was elected lieutentant of Company B, 33rd Virginia Infantry 29 August 1861. He was promoted to captain 21 April 1862 and to major 21 March 1864. He was wounded at the Battle of Malvern Hill in July 1862, suffered from fever and rheumatism in November 1863, and was captured at Woodstock, Virginia 23 September 1864 and sent to Fort Delaware. He was released on July 24, 1865. Golladay returned to Shenandoah County where he served as deputy sheriff and as county treasurer. He married Sarah C. Lonas (b. ca. 1845) 5 June 1869, and they had at least one child. Golladay died 20 July 1874 in Woodstock, Shenandoah County, and was buried in the Lutheran churchyard in Woodstock.
