Biographical or historical data
John Thornton Woodford was born in Virginia 26 August 1812 to William Woodford (1787-1831) and Anna Maria Archer Woodford (1788-1840). In the early 1820s, Woodford and his family relocated to Bourbon County, Kentucky, where Woodford lived the rest of his life. He apprenticed in the tanning and currying business, before settling down to become a successful farmer. Woodford married Elizabeth Hawes Buckner (1821-1904) and they had 9 children. Woodford died in 1892, and was buried in the Paris cemetery in Paris, Kentucky. Woodford was related to Cocke through his mother.
