These transcripts include abstracts of wills and correspondence. Biographical or historical data
John Fox was born in 1770 in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, to Thomas Fox (ca. 1710-1792) and Philadelphia Herndon Fox (1745-1816). As a young man, he moved to Stafford County, Virginia and became deputy clerk for the county court. He married Ann "Nancy" Threlkeld (1772-1828) of Stafford County, and they had 11 children. Fox represented Stafford County in the House of Delegates in the 1798-1799 session. He moved to Prince William County, Virginia, where he built his estate "Oak Hill" 4 miles west of Occoquan, Virginia, and represented that county in the House of Delegates in 1819-1820. Fox served as a captain in the militia, as a county magistrate, and on the school commission. He served on a commission appointed to settle a boundary dispute between Prince William and Fauquier Counties. A religious man, Fox devoted himself to church work and was elected clerk of the Baltimore Christian Association in 1820. Fox died in Prince William County in April 1843.
