Biographical or historical data
Robert Richard Bragg was born 24 January 1844 in Lunenburg County, Virginia. At 16 he enlisted in Neblett's heavy artillery battery and served with the unit in its various guises as Neblett's artillery; Coleman's artillery; Company H, 9th Virginia Infantry; Company D, 28th Virginia Infantry Battalion; and Company H, 59th Virginia Infantry. Bragg saw action in Florida, North Carolina, and Virginia, including the battle of the Crater during the siege of Petersburg. Bragg was paroled 12 April at Burkeville, Virginia. After the war, he moved to Petersburg and became a travelling salesman. He married Mary Elizabeth Boyd (1854-1923) 30 October 1877 and they had 8 children. Bragg died 5 January 1921.
