Charles L. Harper served in Company E, 19th Michigan Infantry during the Civil War. At the time of the fall of Atlanta, Georgia, and Sherman's March to the Sea, the 19th Michigan was part of the 2nd Brigade, 3rd Division, 20th Corps of the Army of the Cumberland.
