Papers, 1800-1944 of the Hounshell family of Wythe County, Virginia, containingaccounts, deeds, land grants, plats, promissory notes, receipts, and wills. Also included is a piece of anti-German propaganda, ca. 1918. Many of the documents concern Peter Hounshell (1795-1848), and the related families of Catron, Creager, and Umberger. Also included are two leather pocketbooks, and a ca. 1859 deed which contains the seal of the Board of Public Works

The Hounshell family settled in Wythe County, Virginia, in the late eighteenth century. P. John Hounshell (d. 1826) was the progenitor. His son, Peter Hounshell (1795-1848), a farmer, married Elizabeth Catron, daughter of Michael Catron.
