Biographical or historical data
Robert M. French enlisted 15 March 1862 in Amelia County, Virginia, and became a private in Company C, 23rd Virginia Infantry. He was captured at the battle of Spotsylvania Court House 12 May 1864 and held at Fort Delaware. French was released 20 June 1865 after taking the oath of allegiance.
