- Described
- Biographical or historical data
- Organized in 1788, the congregation was first known as Keinadt's (Keiner, Koiner, Coyner's) Church, after Caspar Keinadt, an early settler in the area. When the church building was erected in 1794, it was called Spindler's Meeting House for Adolph Spindler, the pastor at the time. The church became a member of the Tennessee Synod in 1823. In 1881, the official title became The Coyner's Evangelical Congregation of Augusta County Worshiping at Trinity and Bethany Churches. In 1941, the name was shortened to Bethany-Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. The congregation moved to Waynesboro in 1923, and the present church was dedicated in 1925. Since 1939 the congregation has been a part of the Southeastern District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
