St. Mary's Whitechapel Episcopal Church was founded in 1669. The original structure was built in 1669 and an addition was constructed in 1739-1740. As a result of disestablishment and the Glebe Act, the congregation disbanded from 1812 to 1832. In 1832, the portion of the church built in the 1700's was torn down.
