Biographical or historical data
John J. Deal was born in 1813 and resided in Cabin Point, Surry County, Virginia, where he was a prosperous merchant and the town postmaster. He married first Ann E. Sledge and second Virginia J. Moore. Numerous members of the Witmer family of Paradise, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, served as postmasters. The above Witmer may have been Amos Witmer, who resided in Paradise at the time of this letter. Edwin T. Fetters was married to Laura Lavina Witmer. He died 3 September 1852.
