Clayton qualified for his commission in the June term of the Bedford County Court

Biographical or historical data
John Clayton may have been John Willis Clayton of Bedford County, Virginia. Born about 1750, Clayton lived in Hanover County, Virginia, then moved to Charlotte County, Virginia, in 1775. He served in the Virginia State Line during the American Revolution. Clayton was living in Bedford County by 1793. He and his wife Mary had nine children. Clayton died in Bedford County 21 August 1820.
