Biographical or historical data
The Norment family is a branch of the Norment family prominent in Caroline, Hanover, King and Queen and King William Counties, Virginia. This particular branch left Virginia in 1850 and resettled in Dallas County, Arkansas. However, by 1860, the Normants apparently had moved on, died, or married, as they are not listed in the census of that year. The "Brother John" mentioned in the diary may be the John Norment listed in Woodruff County, Arkansas in the 1870 census.
