Richardson (ca. 1841-1861), Company I, 20th Virginia infantry to his parents, Amos Richardson (ca. 1811-1879) and Mary A. M. Dunkley Richardson (b. ca. 1819) of Brunswick County detailing army and camp life and activities. Also includes a letter, 26 August 1861, from Joseph Jones (1814-1865), captain, Company I, to Amos Richardson informing Richardson why George Richardson cannot receive a furlough; a letter, dated 11 September 1861, from Robert Lenoir Cheely (1826-1903) to George R. Stone (b. 1846) informing Stone about the death of George R. Richardson; and a letter, dated 14 September 1861, from Caroline E. Mayo (1806-1895) of Richmond, Virginia, to Amos Richardson relating the circumstances of George R. Richardson's death and offering her condolences

Biographical or historical data
Amos Richardson (ca. 1811-1879) was born in Massachusetts and settled in Brunswick County, Virginia, becoming a farmer. He married Mary A. M. Dunkley (b. ca. 1819) in December 1840. They had a son, George R. Richardson, born about 1841. At the outbreak of the Civil War, George R. Richardson enlisted in the Brunswick Blues, which became Company I, 20th Infantry, Virginia. His enlistment lasted only a few months. In late August, he caught typhoid fever and died in a private hospital in Richmond, Virginia, 10 September 1861. George's sister Sarah A. E. (b. 1846) married George R. Stone (b. 1846) of Brunswick County 7 February 1867.
