Biographical or historical data
Giles Buckner Cooke was born 1788 in Gloucester County, Virginia, to Mordecai Cooke (1755-1810) and Elizabeth Scrosby Cooke (d. 1795). He moved to Norfolk, Virginia, and began the practice of law. Cooke served as alderman and as magistrate. He married his first wife, Sarah Talbot (1798-1824) of Norfolk 29 February 1816, and they had 2 children. Cooke married his second wife Lucy Thornton Garnett Brooke 19 December 1825 and they had 1 child. Cooke died May 1855 in Norfolk.
