Summary

Also included is a letter, dated 22 February 1795, from Washington in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to his nephew Robert Lewis of Fredericksburg, Virginia, in which Washington advises Lewis on the collection of his (Washington's) rents and on Lewis' personal business affairs. Both letters are published with some variations in John C. Fitzpatrick, ed., WRITINGS OF GEORGE WASHINGTON. The Bassett letter is in volume 4, pp. 359-360, and the Lewis letter is in volume 34, pp. 122-125
