Summary
Papers, 1748-1773, of the Winslow family of Essex, Spotsylvania, and Orange Counties, Virginia, consisting of: a will, 16 November (?) 1748, of Benjamin Winslow (d. 1751) of Essex County, recorded 21 May 1751 in Essex County Court; a subpoena, 25 April 1765, issued by the Orange County Court to Susanna Winslow (1706-1778), Benjamin Winslow (d. ca. 1830), and Harry Winslow to answer a complaint by Beverley Winslow (1734-1792); and two depositions, 15 July 1769 and 7 July 1773, of Susannah Winslow concerning a land dispute in the chancery case of Beverly Winslow vs. Benjamin Winslow. The will disposes of substantial land and slave property, and is recorded in Essex County Will Book 9, 1750-1754, pp. 50-52. The land dispute was over land that Susannah Winslow's brother Robert Beverley (1701-1733) had considered leaving to her son Thomas Winslow, deceased, by the time his father Benjamin Winslow wrote his will. This land was probably located in Orange County

She married Benjamin Winslow (d. 1751) of Essex County, Virginia, and they had six children, one of whom, Thomas, apparently died before his father. Susannah died in 1778. Their son Beverley Winslow was born 3 July 1734. He became the county lieutenant for the Spotsylvania County, Virginia, militia. He married Catherine Robinson (1742-1789), and they had seven children. Beverley Winslow died July 1792 in Spotsylvania County.
