Biographical or historical data
Francis Jerdone was born 30 January 1720/1 in Jedburgh, Scotland, and arrived in Virginia about 1740. He established a mercantile firm in New Kent County, Virginia, and owned an interest in the forge at Providence Forge in that county. In 1752, Jerdone moved to Louisa County, Virginia, and built "Jerdone Castle." He expanded his business interests from New Kent County to Louisa county. Jerdone married Sarah Macon (1731/2-1818) 10 February 1753. He died 5 August 1771 in Louisa County.
