Biographical or historical data
Samuel Clifford was born about 1841 and resided in Lorain County, Ohio. He enlisted in Company D, 23rd Ohio Infantry 20 May 1861. He served in the regiment's major engagements. Clifford was wounded and captured at the battle of Cloyd's Mountain 9 May 1864 and died in a Confederate prison in Danville, Virginia, 12 July 1864.
