Biographical or historical data
David Shepherd Garland Cabell was born 23 June 1825 in Nelson County, Virginia, to Edward A. Cabell (1797-1869) and Mary Rice Garland (1804-1893). He received an AB from Princeton University and studied law at the University of Virginia from 1852 to 1853. Cabell practiced law in Nelson County from 1853 to 1859. He served as a private in Company H, 49th Virginia Infantry during the Civil War. After the Civil War, Cabell served as state senator for the district of Nelson and Rockbridge County from 1865 to 1867. He later taught at the Norwood High School in Nelson County from 1871 to 1872. Cabell wrote several articles for newspapers and magazines. He died in Buckingham County, Virginia, in 1893.
