Biographical or historical data
Joseph Richard Manson (1831-1918) was born in Brunswick County, Virginia. Attended Randolph-Macon College and was a merchant and Methodist lay leader. He married Charlotte Ashby of Culpeper County, Virginia, in 1855. Manson enlisted 1862 and served with Company I, 12th Virginia Infantry, during the United States Civil War. After the war Manson was a landowner in Brunswick County (Va.).
