Papers, 1807-1865, of Capt. John Day (ca. 1773-1838) of Portsmouth, Virginia, including accounts and receipts, bonds, correspondence, estate papers, Mutual Assurance Society policy receipts, and miscellaneous items. The majority of the collection consists of papers relating to the estates of Thomas C. Ferebee (d. 1834), Levi Johnson (d. 1815), John Leslie (d. 1820), and Zachariah Nichols (d. 1814). Leslie was the administrator of Johnson's estate, and Day was the administrator of Leslie's estate. Day was also executor of Nichols' estate

Capt. John Day was born circa 1773. He married Catherine Brooks in Norfolk County on 21 December 1826. They resided in Portsmouth. Day died at his residence on 23 November 1838 at the age of sixty-five.
