Photocopy and transcript of Katherine Isabel Tapscott's (1895-1978) diary chronicling her cross-country trip with her great-uncle Vincent Allen Tapscott (1842-1920) from Yreka, California, to Augusta County, Virginia, and the home of her grandparents from 18 May to 25 September 1907, including stops in San Francisco, California; Chicago, Illinois; Albemarle County, Norfolk, and Richmond, Virginia; Lake City, South Carolina; and Washington, D.C. Tapscott relates meeting several of her Virginia and South Carolina relatives, as well as sight-seeing in San Francisco, Chicago, and Richmond, and visiting the 1907 Jamestown Exposition in Norfolk. There is a note, dated 9 September 1909, stating that she gives the journal to her father James Robert Tapscott (1865-1938)

Katherine Isabel Tapscott was born 1 July 1895 in Yreka, Siskayou County, California, to James Robert Tapscott (1865-1938) and Catherine Ada Merrill (1862-1946). She married Allyn Goodwin Smith (1893-1976) 2 July 1921, and they had four children. Katherine Tapscott Smith died in Berkeley, California, 29 January 1978.
