Records, 1776-1903 (bulk 1821-1877), including the minutes of the meeting of the society of German Jews, Chebrah Ahabat Yisrael, who organized and established the Synagogue Beth Ahabah after their separation from Beth Shalome in 1841 (pages i-viii); a register of the members of the congregation by families, giving dates of marriages and births and at times the date of birth of the father (pages 1-130); and a resolution, dated 1843, enabling members of Beth Ahabah to use the cemetery at Beth Shalome (p. 131). Some of the records are written in German, and some notations are written in Hebrew. Accession 26038 is the manuscript copy of this volume. (Accession 25986)

Congregation Beth Ahabah was organized in 1841 from a social and philanthropic society of German Jewish immigrants within Richmond's first Jewish congregation, Beth Shalome, which was organized in 1789.
