Biographical or historical data
St. Peter's Parish, when created in 1679 from Blissland Parish, included the area to the northwest which became St. Paul's Parish in 1704. Changes in the southern boundary lines also took place over the years. A change in 1725 of the boundary between New Kent and James City counties resulted in St. Peter's Parish being in both counties until 1767, when further changes placed it once again entirely in New Kent County. For more information see, THE VESTRY BOOK AND REGISTER OF ST. PETER'S PARISH, NEW KENT AND JAMES CITY COUNTIES, VIRGINIA, 1684-1786, transcribed and edited by Churchill G. Chamberlayne, 1937. In this volume are transcribed all of the records of St. Peter's Parish (Accession 19729 and 19740). The introduction and appendices provide valuable information on the history of New Kent County and the parishes of the area.
