Papers 1808-1901, of the Luttrell family of Culpeper and Rappahannock Counties, Virginia, consisting of accounts, agreements, bonds, judicial records, legal notices, letters, plats, promissory notes, receipts, recommendations, and tax records. Majority of collection contains accounts and receipts for purchases and sales made by the Luttrell family and James R. Nelson, including agricultural implements and their repair, clothing and shoes, dry-goods, groceries, grain and seed, horseshoes, insurance, and wheat. Accounts, bonds, letters, promissory notes, and receipts also concern other financial dealings of the Luttrell family and Nelson, including the hire of slaves, the lending of money, and other fiscal matters. Accounts and receipts are with Rappahannock County merchants, as well as other state and regional businesses. There are also judicial records and tax records dealing with legal matters. Some accounts and receipts concern the estate of Burrell Luttrell (d. 1831). Also legal notice, plat, and judicial records involve the sale of property owned by William F. Baker. Collection also includes a recommendation, 16 June 1884, from the trustees of the Union Male and Female Seminary in Dyer County, Tennessee, for Cora Manuel as a teacher and an 18th century unidentified account

Biographical or historical data
The Luttrell family was a prominent family in Culpeper and Rappahannock Counties, Virginia. Burrell Luttrell (25 October 1785-26 November 1831) married Hanna Button (1787-1844) 27 January 1807, and they had six children, including Richard Luttrell (6 January 1809-11 February 1874), Juliet Ann Luttrell (22 September 1810-29 September 1889), James W. Luttrell (22 February 1813-14 October 1884), and John Willis Luttrell (4 March 1816-14 August 1894). Richard Luttrell married Mary E. Bywaters (d. 1870) 15 January 1838, and they had four children, including Burrell Edmund Luttrell (29 December 1838-4 June 1915). Juliet Ann Luttrell married Armstead Corbin (1785-1856) and they had six children. James W. Luttrell married Secy Frances Cook (1823-1854) 27 August 1840, and they had two children; he then married Marie E. Corbin, and they had two children. John Willis Luttrell married Sarah Elizabeth Corbin (1816-1882) 8 July 1839, and they had six children. Burrell Edmund Luttrell married Mary Richie Nelson (1840-1909) 23 August 1859, and they had three children, including John Augustine Adams Luttrell (b. 11 September 1878, and he married Virginia Snodgrass (b. 1786) 10 October 1906.
