Biographical or historical data
Thomas Coleman was born about 1715 and lived in King and Queen County, Virginia. He held several county posts including sheriff and magistrate. Coleman represented King and Queen County in the General Assembly in 1776-1777 and 1781-1783. He also served as a colonel in the Virginia militia and as a commissioner of supplies during the American Revolution. Coleman married Mildred Richards, the sister of William Richards, and was still living in 1791. William Richards was born in England before 1734 and emigrated with his family to Virginia, settling in King and Queen County. Richards served as sheriff and magistrate for the county, and served as a captain in the Virginia militia during the Revolution. He died about 1789. William's brother John (1734-1785) married Thomas Coleman's sister Susannah (d. 1778).
