Mary Elmen was born 4 October 1795 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to George Emlen (1741-1812) and Sarah Fishbourne Emlen (1755-1823). Mary Emlen married John Morin Scott (1789-1858), a prominent Philadelphia lawyer, 15 May 1817. They had seven children, including Lewis Allaire Scott (1819-1896).
