Biographical or historical data
John Thomas Schell was born 11 November 1945 in Birmingham, Alabama. He received his B.A. from Auburn University in 1967 and his J.D. from the University of Virginia Law School in 1970. Schell began practicing law in the Fairfax County, Virginia, and served as an advocate for consumers. He ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic nomination for attorney general in 1977. Schell married Arden Jane Brannon.
