Biographical or historical data
Emmett J. Mann was born in 1838 in Chesterfield County, Virginia. He was a carpenter when the Civil War began. Mann enlisted in Company A, 6th Virginia Infantry on 9 May 1861 in Manchester, Virginia. He was promoted to first sergeant 5 October 1861, to second lieutenant 1 May 1862, and to first lieutenant 4 April 1863. Emmett J. Mann was paroled at Appomattox Court House 10 April 1865. Samuel Ali Mann was born 16 February 1842 in Chesterfield County. During the Civil War, he served in Captain John W. Drewry's Artillery Company (Southside Artillery) which was mostly stationed at Drewry's Bluff. Samuel Mann, a first sergeant, was also paroled at Appomattox on 10 April 1865. He died in Chesterfield County 17 October 1914 and was buried in the Mann family cemetery.
