Summary
Transcripts, 1870, of Virginia papers copied from the McDonald transcript of the British State Papers, Colonial Series, volume 3, number 40 (1625) which describes the history, government, and economic conditions of Virginia in 1625 and what steps the government of Charles I (1600-1649) should take concerning the colony. It also is a defense of the previous management of Virginia by the Virginia Company. This transcript was made by William Green (1806-1880) of Richmond, Virginia, with the supervisory help of Thomas Wynne (1820-1875). Transcript was made from an earlier transcript made by Angus William McDonald (1799-1864) from original records located in the British State Papers

Biographical or historical data
William Green (1806-1880) was born in Fredericksburg, Virginia, educated in Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania County, Virginia, studied law under his father and was admitted to the bar in 1827. Green practiced law in Culpeper County, Virginia, but his attention to detail and careful preperation of cases brought him the larger part of legal work in Rappahannock, Orange, and Louisa Counties, Virginia, as well. Often retained in cases before the Court of Appeals, Green moved to Richmond, Virginia, in 1855. During the Civil War, Gren served in the Confederate Department of the Treasury. He was judge of the court of conciliation in Richmond. Green was appointed professor of law at Richmond College, conducting the first law class there. He also engaged in literary work, writing articles of a legal or historical nature.
