Summary
Account book, 1803, listing debts due from Virginia debtors to Scottish merchants which were uncollected because of the American Revolution. Under the Jay Treaty of 1794, liability for debts to British merchants by Americans from before the Revolution would be accepted the United States government. A commission was set up to adjudicate the claims, but failed. In 1802, the United States paid 600,000 pounds in place of the liabilities. An english commission then assumed the responsibility of settling these claims. This book is an aggregate of claims submitted to the commission
