Papers, 1822-1890, of John Reynoldson Butterworth (1903-1987) of Dinwiddie County, Virginia, consisting of an incomplete deed, recorded October 1790, from Thomas Roney (d. 1822) and his wife Rebekah (d. ca. 1823) to Isaac Tucker (d. 1838), all of Dinwiddie County; and a deed, dated 1 May 1822, for three slaves from William Scott (ca. 1800-1851) and Thomas Field (d. ca. 1832) to Joseph G. King (d. 1828), all of Dinwiddie County. Also includes a letter, dated 31 December 1833, from General Winfield Scott (1786-1866) of Elizabethtown, New Jersey, to John L. Scott (ca. 1795-1835) of Dinwiddie County concerning a memorial on behalf of the former's mother-in-law; and a letter, dated 27 May 1834 from Henry Hungerford (1788-1866) of Westmoreland County, Virginia, to John L. Scott, discussing state politics. John Reynoldson Butterworth was born 13 April 1903 in Dinwiddie County, Virginia, to Abner Goode Butterworth (1876-1950) and Julia Harris Butterworth (1880-1976). Butterworth collected several documents relating to Dinwiddie County's history. He died 26 August 1987 in Petersburg, Virginia.
